Biggest cash prize: It’s a tie: $25,000 in two video contests this week! First up, the ‘Me on GNC’ Photo & Video Contest. GNC is seeking inspiring stories about using their products to achieve health and wellness. Open to US residents, 18 and older, and due June 30th. Next, we have the Looking@Democracy Challenge, which is open to all US residents. This competition is seeking creative media pieces about strengthening American democracy. Your submission can come in many formats such as short videos, audio stories, animation, music videos, public service announcements, infographics, graphic art, even Facebook and iPhone apps. Outside of the big cash prizes for 1st-3rd Place, there are special cash prizes for students and other young people, so if you’re young but have BIG IDEAS, check it out! Hurry, entries are due April 30th.
Best prize: OK, we’ve got two options here too, and they’re both awesome for filmmakers looking to level up on their equipment. First and foremost is a shot to win $65,000 in filmmaking gear, including the RED EPIC-X PRO COLLECTION, in the 2013 HDVideoPro ‘Emerging Pro’ Competition. The catch here is that you have to be a film or photography student in college, OR have less than 5 years of professional experience, PLUS be a US resident in order to participate. Here’s how it goes: Make an eye-catching 5 minute short. Narrative or not, your filmmaking chops have gotta shine if you’re gonna wow the judges. There will be a Round 2 if you’re named as a finalist, but in order to make the cut, you first need to get your submission in by August 15th. Another great option is the Adblock Plus Creative Challenge. It’s open worldwide, 16 and older, and offers a prize of $5000 of your choice of video equipment. Adblock Plus invites you to create an anti-advertising ad that reflects the ethos of their browser extension service. Due May 31st.
