New and Notable Video Contests - Week of May 20
Biggest cash prize: $28,000 in the Sole Society TV Commercial Project, brought to you by Tongal. SoleSociety.com offers must-have shoes, bags, and accessories at approachable prices, and they are now seeking 30-second commercials intended for TV that will help raise awareness of the brand. Open worldwide, 13 and older. Submit your pitch by June 3rd to earn a production budget, otherwise final videos will be due July 1st.
Best prize: An iPad mini in the Contest Central ‘iPad mini’ Video Contest. Make a video of yourself saying how the new iPad Mini will make your life easier and you could win one! Videos that are clever and creative are likely to go further in this competition, so be smart about it! Open worldwide and due June 10th.
Best trip: A trip to a Run or Dye event + a Go Pro Hero 3 and $500 in the Run or Dye ‘I Choose to Run’ Video Contest. Whether you’ve just got your first pair of running shoes, or are well on your way to your 20th pair, when you lace up those shoes and head out to exercise, you’re making a choice. So…why do you run? Answer that question in a short video and you could win a trip to an upcoming Run or Dye event of your choice. Open to US residents, 18 and older. Due May 31st.

OVC’s Pick of the Week: Out of all the contests, our favorite this week is the 2013 ‘Lights! Camera! Pour!’ Video Contest. For the 7th year, Wine Spectator is seeking entertaining wine videos. From an interview with a winemaker, chef or sommelier, to your favorite recipe paired with wine, tell a story where wine is the star. The creator of the winning video will receive a pair of full event registrations at two distinguished wine and film events: Wine Spectator’s Wine Experience in New York City AND the Napa Valley Film Festival in Napa Valley. Open worldwide, 21 and older. Due September 2nd.

New and Notable Video Contests - Week of May 13
Biggest cash prize: $16,000 in the LEGO Speedorz ‘Unleash the Power’ Video Project, brought to you by Tongal. LEGO wants you to create an action-packed stunt video that gets kids excited about this new super-kinetic line of toys. A total of TEN video creators will be awarded for their 30-60 second spots, and SIX creators who submit the best pitch by May 22nd will even secure a production budget to create their films. Open worldwide, 13 and older. Final videos are due June 24th.
Best prize: The opportunity to work on a documentary with Jon Blair (including travel to Asia or Africa) and an Apple laptop in the END7 Video Contest, brought to you by Genero. The END7 campaign is aiming to wipeout 7 devastating diseases that can be cured with a simple pack of pills, and they’d like you to create a short video that raises awareness for their cause. Open worldwide, 13 and older. Due June 18th.
Best trip: A trip to South Africa + $10,000 in the South Africa 2013: Corkcicle Chillsner Contest, brought to you by MOFILM. The Chillsner is literally a very cool way to keep your beer icy cold. Shoot a commercial that features the practical uses of the product during “beer time” at outdoor get-togethers. Open worldwide, 16 and older. You can pitch to earn a production budget by May 31st. Otherwise, final videos are due by July 29th.

OVC’s Pick of the Week: Out of all the contests, our favorite this week is the Nickelodeon ‘SpongeBob SquareShorts’ Competition. SpongeBob fans are invited to create a short film homage to he who lives in a pineapple under the sea. Capture the humor, positivity and happiness of SpongeBob in a short that’s under 3 minutes. We like this contest because NIckelodeon will choose two winners - one creator who is under 18 and one who is 18 or older - and both will earn a trip to LA for a special screening event, plus $2500 in spending money. Open worldwide and due June 28th.

This week, Pringles announced the SEVEN finalists for their ‘Force For Fun’ Star Wars-themed project that ran through Tongal earlier this year. You can now view all seven commercials on the Pringles YouTube page.
Neat-o BTS footage, if you’re into that kind of thing. You may notice a certain OVC admin/host in a 2-second clip featuring a screen test of a lightsaber cutting through a coffee mug. Just sayin’!

New and Notable Video Contests - Week of May 6
Biggest cash prize: $17,500 in the ERA ‘Tough Detergent for Tough Moms’ Video Project, brought to you by Tongal. If you’re a Spanish-speaking filmmaker, you’ll have an edge in this project. ERA Detergent is seeking 30-second TV commercials en Español that feature an Hispanic-looking mom who lets nothing stand in the way when it comes to her family’s laundry. No matter how tough the stain, she can take care of it with ERA, while still taking time to balance everything else in her life. Open worldwide, 13 and older. Pitch to earn a production budget by May 15th, otherwise final videos are due June 14th.
Best prize: A Wedding reception for up to 50 people in California wine country in the St Francis Winery ‘Dream Wedding’ Video Contest. Are you planning to get married next summer, but don’t want to have to worry about all the details. This is the contest for you! Share your love story, and why people should vote for you, in a 1-2 minute video and you could win this amazing wedding worth nearly $40,000! Open to US residents, 21 and older. Due September 30th.
Best trip: A trip to Portland, Oregon and Scotland in the Bob’s Red Mill ‘Spar for the Spurtle III’ Contest. For the 20th year, the Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship will take place in Scotland this fall. And this is the third year that Bob’s Red Mill will be sending one culinarily masterful fan to compete. Think you’ve got what it takes? Make a video of your best recipe featuring Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oats. Three Finalists will duke it out in Portland and one victor will be awarded the grand prize - $2500 cash and an all-expenses-paid adventure to Scotland to represent Bob’s Red Mill at the Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship! Open to US residents, 18 and older. Due July 22nd.

OVC’s Pick of the Week: Out of all the contests, our favorite this week is the Cyberlink ‘Motion Graphics’ Video Contest. Cyberlink has been hosting these monthly challenges all year, and we like them because they’re great for beginners to learn new filmmaking and editing skills. If you don’t have access to lot of editing software, Cyberlink hooks you up with trials of their products to create your entry. And if you win a challenge, you can earn about $400 worth of prizes, including CyberLink’s Director Suite software and other assorted swag. This month, they are asking you to combine live-action footage and motion graphics to tell a 40-60 second story. Open to all and due May 26th.

New and Notable Video Contests - Week of April 29
Biggest cash prize: $21,000 in the ‘Your Ticket to Playground Earth’ Video Project, brought to you by Tongal. The goal here is to create a commercial for BF Goodrich All-Terrain Tires that taps into the spirit of exploration and adventure. Convince adrenaline junkies that these tires are essential to all their off-road expeditions. Open worldwide, 13 and older. Pitch to earn a production by May 8th, otherwise final videos are due June 7th.
Best prize: A Canon EOS 5D Mark III + more in the Green Day Short Film Challenge, brought to you by Talenthouse. Green Day’s latest release was not one, but three new albums - titled ¡UNO!, ¡DOS!, and¡TRE! - and they are inviting filmmakers to create a short to accompany a song off this trilogy. The band will choose one winner to have their short film featured and promoted for millions around the world via Green Day’s official website and social media channels, along with awarding that Canon 5D. Open worldwide, 18 and older, and due June 5th.
Best trip: A trip for 4 to Los Angeles in the Winnie the Pooh ‘Storyteller of the Year’ Contest. Think you can bring a Winnie the Pooh story to life? Choose from among 3 designated stories, then record a video of yourself telling the story with tiggerific enthusiasm and incregilistic skillification. One winner will be named ‘Storyteller of the Year’ and be honored at an event in LA in June. Plus 2 Honorable Mentions and 3 Fan Favorites will be awarded a Pooh Prize Basket. Open to US residents, 18 and older. Due May 15th.
