It may be the first day of June, but it’s time to look back on the best of the newest contests from the last week in May. Let’s get down to it!

Best non-cash prize: $10,000 in a Charles Schwab account in the ‘Oh Chuck! I Blew My Cash’ Video Contest. Good contest for: the financially-challenged.

Best trip: A trip to Nashville + $10,000 in the Dollar General ‘Sing Your Heart Out’ Video Contest. Good contest for: singers, country music fans.

This is your weekly reminder to rock the vote for your fellow OVCers. Here is the newest batch of videos that need your help:

Whether you’re the next great advertising visionary, or just an avid fan of Mad Men, we recommend trying your hand at video contests that seek commercials for a brand. These types of contests make up 15% of all the current offerings on OVC, so chances are likely that if you’re entering video contests with any regularity, you’ll end up making a commercial at some point.

Creating commercials are great because, even if you don’t win the contest, you can still use the final spot in your demo reel to further your career. This is something you arguably can’t do with some of the wackier video contests out there. I mean, that video where you dance in your backyard in a hula skirt? That one will never (and probably should never) be passed on to potential clients if you want to score a gig.

Additionally, commercial video contests tend to supply some of the consistently biggest payouts (and generally award cash)! Out of all 24 commercial video contests on our site right now, $6100 is the average cash prize for First Place. Not bad!

You guys, it’s FRIDAY! In the states, it’s Memorial Day weekend - the 3-day weekend that kicks off the summer season. Are you all ready to film something cool on your long weekend? Before you do, you might want to check out some of the best new video contests to hit OVC.

Here are some of the highlights this week:

Biggest cash prize: It’s a tie! $7,500 both in the Surf Liquid Laundry Detergent Video Assignment on Poptent AND Eyeka’s Coke Burn Video Contest.

Best non-cash prize: $5000 Director’s Dream Studio Package in the 2012 Intel Video Superstars Competition. If you’ve got a music video, short film or video game trailer to share, this is the place to do it!

Best trip: A 7-day road trip through a major US highway route in the Motel 6 ‘Open Road Correspondent’ Video Contest. Motel 6 is seeking 3 social media-savvy travel enthusiasts to report from the road this summer.

OVC’s Pick of the Week: Overall, our favorite contest this week is the SeeFlik Short Film Competition Spring ‘12. This is another competition that’s offering short filmmakers some cool prizes. The first place winner will receive $5,000 cash, $850 worth of film industry software, and the opportunity to accept a 3 month paid production internship at the news and entertainment website Salon.com. This is open to US residents as young as 15 and it’s a totally judged competition, so you can be sure that it will be a level playing field for everyone who enters.
